With the development of technology and its reflection on health, it is possible to perform goiter surgery without a scar on the neck using some special technological devices.
Who May Have Scarless Thyroidectomy?
It is not possible to perform scarless thyroidectomy for every patient. Some factors such as the size of the thyroid gland, the size of the nodules, the result of biopsy if applied, and ultrasonographic findings are taken into account for selection of patients. Thyroid cancer does not an obstacle for scarless thyroidectomy. Scarless thyroidectomy can also be performed for appropriate thyroid cancer patients.

How are these surgeries performed?
Many surgical methods have been described as scarless goiter surgery from the past. These surgeries can be performed through an entering point behind the ear, over the collarbone, under chin, under tongue in mouth. Nowadays, it is performed with special surgical equipments inserted through axilla and nipple or internal part of lip in mouth. Scar formation on neck does not occur with any of these operations.
